Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are shells of porcelain that fit over the front of your tooth. Masking stains and imperfections, these veneers also have a unique ability to let light through, creating the slightly transparent appearance of real teeth. Like bonding, a dentist will use them to correct imperfections of the teeth, but they are almost entirely maintenance-free. They require minimal shaping, and there is usually a short period of time between the two office visits required. Veneers are also great for whitening stained teeth that cannot be bleached.
Crowns and Bridges
Much like porcelain veneers, crowns and bridges can now be made to look entirely real and perfect. Crowns are used to replace the structure of broken teeth, and bridges are used to replace gaps between missing teeth. Minimally invasive procedures are generally recommended, but they can be transformative. Missing teeth can result in malocclusion, temperomandibular joint disorders (TMJ), and gum disease. Most crowns and bridges are expected to last up to 35 years, and can last longer with good care.
Tooth Whitening
Tooth whitening is a simple procedure in which an oxygenating process is used to whiten teeth discolored by tobacco smoke, coffee, tea, chemical damage, trauma, decay, or accidents. At the New York Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, we have several methods for whitening, including Zoom! whitening, and at home whitening options. Zoom! whitening is a procedure done in the office, and is very safe and effective, as are custom home whitening kits. Few things boost confidence quicker than in-office tooth whitening, which can be done in less time than it takes to have lunch!
